It is one of the most advanced filtration and purification processes.
It consists of a chamber with overlaid hollow fibre membranes, with over 400 billion micropores. About 250 times smaller than the diameter of a thread of hair, they have porosity of 0.3 micron, responsible for retaining total coliforms, fecal coliforms and pathogenic bacteria such as Vibrio cholerae, as well as other impurities that might be present in water and which dimensions are larger than 0.3 micron.
The protozoars, as their dimensions are greater than those of bacteria, are also retained.
